As part of the Singapore Tourism Board’s initiative to promote Tourism Careers,

9 March 2009 – As part of the Singapore Tourism Board’s initiative to promote Tourism Careers, a Tourism Careers Pavilion was set up at the recent Careers and Education 2009, a three-day event which ended on 8 March 2009 at Suntec Singapore, Halls 601 to 603.

The objectives of the Tourism Careers Pavilion were to:

        a) showcase the vibrant and exciting careers available in the tourism industry;
        b) profile tourism companies as employers of choice; and
        c) provide industry and career information to attendees.

Information about careers in the tourism industry was presented at the Pavilion through interactive displays and career talks and demonstrations on stage. The concept for the Pavilion was for visitors to find out about each sector in the industry (hotels, tour & travel, attractions, MICE) through the displays which have been organised by sector.

There was also a feature on IR jobs and a section devoted to PMET jobs. Visitors were given a "Passport" to complete which were based on information available on the display boards.

NATAS was invited to be a part of this event through the delivery of career talks, focusing on sectors such as corporate, MICE, golf and leisure tour and travel services.

The event provided a good opportunity to introduce the travel services sector and profile the career options available. A career portal, www.tourismcareers.sg, was showcased during the event for the public to obtain more information and to apply for tourism careers.

TMIS, the education and training arm of NATAS also joined in the event under the WDA pavilion and saw an overwhelming response to its offering of various WSQ courses, especially the Certified Service Professional (CSP) courses.
